Mandela was an egalitarian at heart who thought all human being deserved equal and fair treatment, despite the colour of their skin. As a result of this multiple conviction, he was incarcerated for years. He has been in jail 32 years (1962-1990) Though it took years, Mandela never-never gave up hope. He Stood for His Beliefs, Even Times Were Tough

In the prison, Mandela suffered a lot. He was speaking with inmates, not friends and family on the outside of those prison walls. He was forbidden from reading books or newspapers, and seldom had the slightest idea what it was all about. But there was a way of talking to someone on the outside. Then they let Mandela have letters. Those letters meant a lot as they were the only way for Shahid to have some contact with world beyond those prison walls.

Uncovering the Secrets.

He also received a letter with the number "220941. " It was his jail ID. It was a symbol that as he sat in jail this is what made him. This was from a prisoner who said that people outside were working very hard to get Mandela out. His future which wasn't plastic and in nappies for fucks sake.

If his time in jail was a grim and tough point at which Mandela missed out on His family - it also meant he had been absent from the key period of history as freedom matured, unrest grew, yet still came-round-a-bend. But he did not give up hope even in such adversity. But instead of quitting he used his time in prison to re-educate himself and changed as a person. He worked for what he wanted and never stopped, stump even when it was hard.
